Title

Resolution approving a formal agreement between the City of Milwaukee and the City of Greenfield for the design, installation, construction, operation, maintenance, and funding of permanent street lighting facilities on South 27th Street between West Howard Avenue and West College Avenue.

Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works and City Comptroller to enter into agreement with the City of Greenfield for the installation, construction, operation, maintenance, and funding of upgraded street lighting facilities on South 27th Street, from West Howard Avenue to West College Avenue in the Cities of Milwaukee and Greenfield. The proposed lighting will be modern lighting in the median islands. Greenfield cannot install permanent lighting on their side of South 27th Street due to the WE Energies High Voltage power lines. Funding will be provided by a Wisconsin Department of Transportation Highway Safety Improvement Program Grant to the City of Greenfield, and funds from both Greenfield and Milwaukee will provide the local match.

Whereas, South 27th Street from West Howard Avenue to West College Avenue shares borders with the City of Greenfield to the east and the City of Milwaukee to the west except for the section between a point south of West Grange avenue and West Ramsey Avenue which is entirely in the City of Milwaukee; and

Whereas, The City of Greenfield cannot install permanent lighting on the majority of the west side of South 27th Street in Greenfield due to the proximity of WE Energies high voltage overhead lines making the installation unsafe; and

Whereas, It is desirable and in the best interests of public safety, convenience, and aesthetics that uniform street lighting be installed on South 27th Street from West Howard Avenue to West College Avenue; and
