Title
Substitute resolution approving the Offer to Purchase between the Milwaukee Board of School Directors and Progressive Community Health Center, Inc. for the excess land at the Westside Academy, in the 15th Aldermanic District.
Analysis
This substitute resolution authorizes the City, on behalf of the Milwaukee Board of School Directors, to convey property held in trust for Milwaukee Public Schools.
Body
Whereas, Progressive Community Health Center, Inc. (“PCHC”), formerly known as Westside Health Clinic, provides a wide variety of health and dental services to the residents of the Washington Park and surrounding neighborhoods at its facility at 3522 West Lisbon Avenue; and
Whereas, PCHC plans to expand its operations by constructing a new building on its property to double its capacity for providing health services as well as launch a comprehensive pediatric dental screening and treatment program and establish an education center related to diabetes, obesity and other chronic conditions facing both adult and children in these Westside neighborhoods; and
Whereas, To provide adequate parking for staff and patients at the expanded clinic, PCHC approached the Milwaukee Board of School Directors (“MBSD”) about acquiring the undeveloped land at 1920 North 36th Street and adjacent to the Westside Academy at 1940 North 36th Street and to acquire certain temporary and permanent easements to facilitate construction; and
Whereas, PCHC has a strong partnership with Milwaukee Public Schools and has worked closely with Westside Academy’s students and families to ensure access to quality health care; and
Whereas, MBSD authorized an Offer to Purchase with PCHC on February 28, 2012 to acquire the excess land at Westside Academy and to allow temporary and permanent easements as summarized in a Land Disposition Report, a copy of which is attached to this Common Council File; and
