Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Department of Public Works to accept and expend a $13,000 grant from the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District to include an eco-friendly storm water retention facility with a $54,000 Merrill Park repaving project already scheduled and funded by a 50/50 partnership between the Merrill Park Neighborhood Association and the City’s Playground Improvement Challenge Fund.

A grant-funded, storm water retention facility at Merrill Park helps the City further its green infrastructure policy initiative without incurring any out-of-pocket costs.

Whereas, The Department of Public Works plans to resurface the wading pool apron and repave the parking lot at Merrill Park at a cost of $54,000, approximately half to be funded by the Merrill Park Neighborhood Association through grants from U.S. Bank and Marquette University High School, with the remaining portion funded by the City’s Playground Improvement Challenge Fund; and

Whereas, Storm water retention facilities installed in parking lots can significantly reduce storm water runoff into area sewer systems and possible discharge of untreated wastewater into local natural waterways; and

Whereas, A storm water retention facility at Merrill Park helps the city further its green infrastructure policy initiative; and

Whereas, The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District has expressed a desire to fully fund the installation of a storm water retention facility in conjunction with repaving of the Merrill Park parking lot through a $13,000 Merrill Park Storm Water Retention Facility Grant; and
