Title
Substitute resolution authorizing the placement of a mural by the Young Farmers Program at Kilbourn Park during the summer of 2013.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the placement of a mural by the Young Farmers Program at Kilbourn Park during the summer months of 2013 at no cost to the City of Milwaukee.
Body
Whereas, The Young Farmers Program was established in 2012 at the Riverwest Neighborhood Association; and
 
Whereas, The program offers teens the opportunity to learn about urban agriculture and gain invaluable business experience; and
 
Whereas, Youth participating in the program manage their own businesses and oversee their own garden plots in Kilbourn Reservoir Park, located in the Riverwest neighborhood along East North Avenue; and
 
Whereas, The Young  Farmers Program is currently conducted by Groundwork Milwaukee; and
 
Whereas, Groundwork has recruited students for the program and intends to continue to build the program over the next four years as the students progress through high school; and
 
Whereas, The youth in the Young Farmers Program painted a mural with local artist Tia Richardson describing what they learned and their vision for the future, and wish to place the mural for public display at Kilbourn Park during the summer months of 2013; now, therefore, be it
 
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the placement of a mural for public display at Kilbourn Park by the Young Farmers Program is approved; and, be it
 
Further Resolved, That the Young Farmers Program shall maintain the mural and keep it free of graffiti; and, be it
 
Further Resolved, That the mural shall be placed at no cost to the City and be on display until the end of August, 2013.
