Title
Resolution approving a memorandum of understanding between the City of Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Job Corps Center relating to the Job Corps Center’s performance of concrete-cut repairs for City streetlight poles.
Analysis
This resolution approves a Work-Based Program Agreement Between the Milwaukee Job Corps Center and the City of Milwaukee relating to a partnership under which Milwaukee Job Corps Center students would perform cement finishing on concrete cuts made by the Department of Public Works during its replacement of streetlight poles. The resolution further authorizes the proper City officials to execute the Agreement.

Whereas, The Job Corps is an education and technical career training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps young people ages 16 through 24 acquire the vocational and academic training needed to improve their employment prospects; and
Whereas, The Milwaukee Job Corps Center, located near North 60th Street and West Green Tree Road on the city’s Northwest Side and completed in July, 2010, is an 8-building, 25-acre facility that supports the Job Corps’ mission and provides housing for up to 300 students participating in the program; and
Whereas, The Department of Public Works currently has a backlog of over 3,000 temporarily-repaired (asphalt and/or gravel), streetlight pole concrete cuts in need of permanent repair with concrete; and
Whereas, The Department of Public Works has proposed a partnership with the Milwaukee Job Corps Center in which students in the Center’s Cement and Masonry Training Program would perform cement finishing on concrete cuts made by the Department of Public Works during its replacement of streetlight poles ; and
Whereas, Under the partnership, the Milwaukee Job Corps Center would provide a crew of 3-5 students, a licensed instructing supervisor, transportation and equipment at no cost to the City, whi...
