Resolution relative to the application, acceptance and funding of a Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation Site Assessment Grant.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Department of City Development (“DCD”) to apply for, accept and fund a Site Assessment Grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation in the amount of $300,000 with a City Share of $150,000 and a Grantor Share of $150,000. The purpose of the project is to provide site assessment work at the Menomonee Valley Industrial Center in the City of Milwaukee.
Body
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee (“City”) appears to be eligible for grant funds from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (“WEDC”) for assessment work at the Menomonee Valley Industrial Center; and

Whereas, The operation of this Site Assessment Grant from approximately June 15, 2013 through June 14, 2015 will cost $300,000 of which, $150,000 (50 percent) will be provided by the City and $150,000 (50 percent) will be provided by the Grantor; and

Whereas, The City recognizes that the assessment, remediation and redevelopment of brownfields is an important part of encouraging economic development in Milwaukee and protecting Wisconsin’s resources; and

Whereas, The City has declared its intent to complete the Site Assessment Grant activities described in the application if awarded funds; and

Whereas, The Department of City Development (“DCD”) will maintain records documenting all expenditures made during the Site Assessment Grant period and will allow employees from the WEDC to inspect records and the grant site; and

Whereas, The benefits to the City from this grant project appear to exceed the City’s share of costs and other obligations to be incurred under this project; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that application to WEDC is authorized and DCD shall accept this grant without further approval ...
