Title
Resolution authorizing the acceptance and expenditure of up to $100,000 in private contributions for operation of the Milwaukee Fire Department Institute.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Fire Department to accept and expend up to $100,000 in private contributions for training firefighters from outside the City and hosting outside speakers for training events. The department plans to hold regular seminars of 50 to 100 people and one big event per year. The contribution fund will serve as a mechanism to accept and spend financial contributions from other fire departments that wish to participate in the events.

Body
Whereas, Section 304-24 of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances regulates the receipt, appropriation and expenditures of contributions received by the City; and

Whereas, The Fire Department plans to hold regular seminars of 50 to 100 people and one big event per year as part of the Milwaukee Fire Department Institute program; and

Whereas, Cooperative training events between the various regional fire departments helps to provide consist service throughout the region and during major fire events; and

Whereas, Accepting contributions from participating fire departments will allow for hosting nationally recognized trainers and speakers at the training sessions; now, therefore be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Fire Department is authorized to accept up to $100,000 in private contributions for operation of the Milwaukee Fire Department Institute; and, be it

Further Resolved, That upon receipt and deposit of these funds, the City Comptroller is directed to establish a special account within the Milwaukee Fire Department budget for the expenditure of the funds; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is directed to transfer appropriations and estimated revenue from the Special Purpose Account-Contributions, ...
