Analysis
This resolution directs the Department of Public Works to conduct feasibility and cost study of renovating the 8th floor of City Hall to include a banquet facility and historical exhibition space. The estimated cost of the feasibility and cost study is $20,500. The Department of Public Works is required to submit a written report to the Public Works Committee no later than its regularly-scheduled September 12, 2012, meeting.
Body
The Milwaukee City Hall is a City landmark with substantial history that has recently undergone extensive restoration; and
Whereas, The 8th floor of City Hall is currently vacant, which provides the opportunity to determine if alternative uses of the 8th floor of City Hall are feasible; and
Whereas, Renovating the 8th floor of City Hall to include a banquet facility that has the potential to become one of the City’s premier special event facilities is an alternative use of the 8th floor that merits consideration; and
Whereas, Providing historical exhibits related to City Hall and the City of Milwaukee in a City Hall banquet facility would enhance the experience of patrons attending special events in a City Hall banquet facility and could also be made available for viewing by the general public when the banquet facility is not in use; and
Whereas, The 2012 Budget includes $205,000 in capital funding for the Department of Public Works’ Space Planning, Alterations and Engineering account, which provides funding for architectural and engineering services related to office space studies, including the preparation of preliminary plans and cost estimates for proposed projects, and unscheduled interior offic...
