Title
Resolution relating to a memorandum of understanding between the Milwaukee Police Department and LexisNexis and authorizing the Milwaukee Police Department to accept fees related to the sale of traffic related reports.

Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Police Department to enter into an agreement with LexisNexis and to accept fees related to the sale of traffic related reports.

Body
Whereas, Section 304-24 of the City of Milwaukee Code of Ordinances regulates the receipt, appropriation and expenditure of contributions received by the City; and

Whereas, The Milwaukee Police Department regularly transmits traffic related reports to the State of Wisconsin - Department of Transportation; and

Whereas; There is a demand for the purchase of those reports, including from insurance companies, law firms and individuals; and

Whereas; LexisNexis provides a service with law enforcement agencies to sell for a fee traffic related reports and transmit a portion of that fee to the law enforcement agency; and

Whereas; The Milwaukee Police Department intends to use fees collected from its agreement with LexisNexis for initiatives related to traffic enforcement; and

Whereas; It is in the City’s best interest to augment sources of revenue to widen the Police Department’s ability to improve traffic safety; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Milwaukee Police Department is authorized to accept and expend monies received for traffic enforcement initiatives in an amount not to exceed $1,000,000, and be it

Further Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Chief of Police is authorized to execute an agreement between the City of Milwaukee and LexisNexis to serve the city in a form substantially similar to the memorandum of understanding attached to this file; and, be it
