This resolution authorizes the Municipal Court Chief Court Administrator to execute the attached agreement with the Milwaukee Area Technical College relating to a defense-driving class offered to Municipal Court traffic defendants.
BODY:
Whereas, Common Council Resolution File Number 950298, adopted on June 27, 1995, authorized the Municipal Court and proper city officials to enter into an agreement with the Northwestern University Traffic Institute for provision of defensive driving classes to Municipal Court traffic defendants; and
Whereas, Completion of this class is one of the conditions that the Court has required of traffic defendants who want to have an opportunity to stipulate to a lesser offense that carries lower traffic points than those associated with the original charge; and
Whereas, The Municipal Court has recently concluded discussions with the Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) relating to offering of a defensive-driving class; and
Whereas, MATC has agreed to provide sessions of this class with the needed administrative support for reporting the status of completion of each referral; and
Whereas, Officials of the Municipal Court believe that MATC will provide a more responsive service and more timely information than is currently being provided by the Northwestern University Traffic Institute; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Municipal Court Chief Court Administrator is authorized to execute the attached agreement with the Milwaukee Area Technical College for provision of defensive driving classes for the time period as set forth in the agreement; and, be it
