Resolution authorizing the Commissioner of Public Works to enter into an agreement with Greening Milwaukee for the purpose of planting trees and expanding green spaces at Milwaukee Public Schools. (Forestry Division)
ANLS:
This resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to enter into an agreement with Greening Milwaukee to plant trees and expand green spaces at Milwaukee Public Schools.
BODY:
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee 2000 adopted budget includes $20,000 in capital funds for the Greening Milwaukee Schools initiative; and
Whereas, Resolution number 991448 authorized the Department of Public Works Forestry Division to apply for accept and fund a State of Wisconsin Department of Public Works project grant for $21,900; and
Whereas, Greening Milwaukee is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization formed to facilitate expansion of Milwaukee's urban Forest; and
Whereas, Greening Milwaukee has successfully solicited funds for the Greening Milwaukee Schools initiative from corporate donors and through a "Tree Gift Program," and
Whereas, Over 80 Milwaukee public schools have requested trees and green spaces as part of the program; and
Whereas, Given the multiple funding sources for the Greening Milwaukee Schools initiative and the need for coordination with several governmental and non-governmental organizations, it would be appropriate for Greening Milwaukee to facilitate the implementation of the program; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Commissioner of Public Works is hereby authorized to enter into an agreement with Greening Milwaukee for the purpose of planting trees and expanding green spaces at Milwaukee Public Schools.
