Title

Substitute resolution relating to the City of Milwaukee Mobile Device Management Policy.

Analysis

This resolution revises the City’s Mobile Device Management Policy to be in alignment with State of Wisconsin Standard 290 - Removal of Prohibited Foreign Products.  The revised policy includes a list of social media platforms and social messaging apps which are prohibited from being used on City-issued devices. 

Body

Whereas, Mobile devices are being used in almost all City departments to increase performance in the field and extend communications beyond the office; and

 

Whereas, Common Council File Number 180226, which was adopted on July 10, 2018, established a City of Milwaukee Mobile Device Management Policy for City employees and departments; and

 

Whereas, State of Wisconsin Standard 290 - Removal of Prohibited Foreign Products, which provides standardization for the removal of prohibited foreign products and technologies from the State of Wisconsin IT system, was approved February 20, 2023; and

 

Whereas, The City Information Management Committee is responsible for policy and management of the City’s information resources; and

 

Whereas, On March 2, 2023, the City Information Management Committee approved a revision to the City’s Mobile Device Management Policy; and

 

Whereas, Through this policy, the City will be in alignment with State of Wisconsin Standard 290 - Removal of Prohibited Foreign Products; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that a revised Mobile Device Management Policy, a copy of which is attached to this file, is adopted as City policy; and, be it

 

Further Resolved, That the Mobile Device Management Policy shall be implemented by May 31, 2023.
