Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Pubic Works to execute an agreement between the City of Milwaukee and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for the sharing of dark fiber and other communication services.
Body:

Whereas, The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) currently provides the City of Milwaukee access to the DOT traffic management system cameras through City of Milwaukee fiber for the purposes of augmenting our snow fighting and public safety operations; and

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee owns dark fiber in certain routes that would be beneficial to the reliability of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation traffic management system during the reconstruction of the Marquette Interchange; and

Whereas, The Wisconsin Department of Transportation owns dark fiber in certain routes that would enhance the redundancy of the City of Milwaukee optical network; and

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee Fire Department has expressed support for this agreement as it would enhance the reliability of communication services for the Milwaukee Fire Department; and

Whereas, It would be in the best interests of the City of Milwaukee and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to share fiber resources at agreed upon routes within the City; and

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee's ability to provide reliable communication services for the Milwaukee Fire Department can be enhanced by an agreement to share fiber and communication services with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation; now, therefore, be it
