This resolution amends File Number 180184, adopted by the Common Council May 8, 2018, to increase the contribution limit for the purpose of erecting a statue in honor of Ald. Vel Phillips from $100,000 to $200,000.
Body
Whereas, Common Council Resolution File Number 180184 was adopted by the Common Council on May 8, 2018, authorizing the Common Council-City Clerk to accept up to $100,000 of contributions for the purpose of erecting a statue in honor of Ald. Vel Phillips in accordance with established City policies and procedures; and
Whereas, New information provided by an individual having experience with the technicalities and costs of installing and maintaining such a statue indicates that a budget for a site-specific public artwork requires consideration of the physical site; and
Whereas, If no major construction or electrical remedies are required for installation, a conservative budget for a life-sized bronze and granite pedestal would be estimated in the $100,000 - $125,000 range, but additional amenities, such as lighting, a plaza or landscaping, would require additional expenses; and
Whereas, The $100,000 contribution limit previously authorized in File Number 180184 is insufficient for this purpose; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that Common Council File Number 180184, adopted by the Common Council on May 8, 2018, is amended as follows:
1. The first “Resolved” clause shall be replaced by the following:
