Substitute resolution appropriating $30,000 and reserving up to $70,000 from the Common Council Contingent Fund to the Outside Counsel/Expert Witness Fund Special Purpose Account.

Analysis

This resolution appropriates and reserves funds from the Common Council Contingent Fund to the Outside Counsel/Expert Witness Fund Special Purpose Account to make payments to expert witnesses and outside legal counsel retained by the City Attorney.

Body

Whereas, The Outside Counsel/Expert Witness Fund Special Purpose Account is to be used by the City Attorney’s Office for the purpose of retaining experts and outside legal counsel; and

Whereas, Existing funding will be insufficient because of unanticipated expenditures relating to litigation and negotiations regarding AT&T U-verse service; and

Whereas, Additional funding is necessary to fulfill our legal obligations through the remainder of the year; and

Whereas, It is in the City’s best interest to continue to retain outside counsel and experts when necessary; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that $30,000 be appropriated from the Common Council Contingent Fund (#0001 9990 C001 006300) to the Outside Counsel/Expert Witness Fund (#0001 1490 0001 S157 006300) and, be it

Further Resolved, That up to $70,000 from the Common Council Contingent Fund (#0001-9990-C001-006300) be reserved for the Outside Counsel/Expert Witness Fund (#0001 1490 0001 S157 006300) if necessary; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Attorney’s Office is authorized to expend the additional $70,000; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to make whatever fund transfers are necessary or appropriate to carry out the provision of this resolution.
