Title
Resolution authorizing the Health Department to enter into an agreement with Milwaukee Public Schools for emergency mass care and sheltering sites.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the appropriate City officials to enter into a five year agreement with MPS to provide locations for mass care, health screening, or supply distribution in the event of a future public health emergency or other incident requiring mass care or other public health responses as outlined in the agreement. This agreement will allow the Health Department to quickly and effectively distribute aid, supplies, medication, or shelter capacity to meet emergency needs as they arise.
Body
WHEREAS, the Milwaukee Health Department is required by statute and city ordinance to control and contain health hazards, and to provide control, suppression and prevention of communicable diseases; and,
WHEREAS, the Health Department and Milwaukee Public Schools have determined that it is in the best interests of public health to plan and prepare for public health emergencies; and
WHEREAS, such incidents may require distribution of medical supplies, health screening, or mass care sheltering, in order to expedite aid; and
WHEREAS, the Health Department and Milwaukee Public Schools mutually agree that school sites provide convenient, accessible, and trusted locations to distribute supplies, conduct health screening, or shelter residents; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, by the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the appropriate City officials are hereby authorized to enter into a mass care agreement substantially similar to Exhibit A between the City of Milwaukee and Milwaukee Public Schools.
