Title
Substitute resolution relative to acceptance and funding of an Urban Sustainability Directors Network grant in support of the Environmental Collaboration Office’s home energy efficiency work.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Environmental Collaboration Office to accept and fund a an Urban Sustainability Directors Network grant in the amount of $60,000 with a grantor share of $60,000 and a city share of $0. The purpose of this grant is to support Milwaukee’s efforts to utilize a holistic housing approach through improved coordination and updates to existing citywide programming to address barriers to energy efficiency work, such as outdated electrical wiring and roofing repairs.

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the Urban Sustainability Directors Network through the Energy Innovation Fund for Mid-Sized U.S. Cities; and
Whereas, Milwaukee, like many American cities, faces the increasingly damaging effects of climate change and persistent racial inequities; and
Whereas, Milwaukee has a high number of older, energy-inefficient, and structurally deficient housing stock impacts low-income and households of color more severely than other populations
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee is fully committed to implementing strategies, policies, and practices designed to advance and achieve racial equity and inclusion in education, housing, workforce development, public safety, violence prevention, and the delivery of quality and timely government services; and
Whereas, energy efficiency projects can help building owners reduce operating expenses, improve the building stock, create local jobs, and improve the environment; and
Whereas, the City of Milwaukee established a City-County Task Force on Climate and Economic Equity to make recommendations on how to reduce community-wide net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 45% by the year...
