This substitute resolution seeks introduction and passage of state legislation relating to imposition of an entertainment admissions tax on tickets for events at Miller Park.
BODY:
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee is required to pay $18 million in infrastructure costs for Miller Park; and
 
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee is issuing bonds worth $15 million through the Milwaukee Economic Development Corporation to the Milwaukee Brewers resulting in interest savings to the Milwaukee Brewers of $2.4 million; and
 
Whereas, The citizens of 5 counties, including Milwaukee County, are already paying an additional sales tax of 0.1% to provide financial assistance for Miller Park; and
 
Whereas, This additional sales tax generated $9.7 million from Milwaukee County sales in 1997, which accounted for 54% of the total of $17.9 million collected in the 5-county region in 1997; and
 
Whereas, An entertainment admissions tax on tickets for events at Miller Park would be paid by the users of this service rather than the citizens of Milwaukee; now, therefore, be it
 
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Intergovernmental Relations Division - Department of Administration, is directed to seek introduction and passage of state legislation relating to imposition of an entertainment admissions tax on tickets for events at Miller Park.
