This resolution authorizes the Harbor Commission to apply for financial assistance from the Wisconsin Energy Bureau's Renewable Energy Assistance Program-Construction Grant.
BODY:
Whereas, The Wisconsin Energy Bureau of the Department of Administration has a Renewable Energy Assistance Program which provides renewable energy assistance grants; and
 
Whereas, By providing financial assistance to businesses, municipalities and organizations interested in using renewable energy, this program is intended to reduce expenditures on fuels imported into Wisconsin, provide a more diversified energy supply to the state, increase the competitiveness of Wisconsin businesses through lower energy costs and improve environmental quality; and
 
Whereas, The Harbor Commission appears eligible to participate for a grant award under this program; and
 
Whereas, Grant awards will be made on a first-come, first-served basis, and the amount available for this grant cycle is approximately $200,000; and
 
Whereas, Grants will generally range from 5% to 25% of project costs, up to a maximum of $75,000; now, therefore, be it
 
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, the Harbor Commission is authorized to apply for financial assistance from the Wisconsin Energy Bureau's Renewable Energy Assistance Program-Construction Grant; and, be it
 
Further Resolved, That further Common Council approval will be needed to authorize acceptance and expenditure of such grant funds.
