This resolution approves the expenditure of $11,000 to be allocated from the Outside Counsel/Expert Witness Fund Special Purpose Account for the purpose of providing of-counsel assistance to the City of Milwaukee in William Welter, individually, and as representative of a class consisting of all City of Milwaukee police officers hired on or after July 30, 1947 and before August 1, 1985; Bradley DeBraska and Kenneth J. Elias, individually, and as representatives of a class consisting of all City of Milwaukee police officers hired on or after July 30, 1947 and before August 1, 1985 and Milwaukee Police Association; and all individuals named on Addendum A to the complaint to intervene, Supreme Court Case No. 96-2770. _______________________________________________________
BODY:
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee is a defendant in the case of Welter, et al. v. City of Milwaukee, et al., Case No. 96-2770; and

Whereas, The City Attorney has negotiated a contract with the firm of Quarles & Brady to provide the City with of- counsel assistance in the Wisconsin Supreme Court in the above-referenced action; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council that the City Attorney's Office be and hereby is authorized to retain Quarles & Brady for the purpose of obtaining of-counsel assistance in the above-entitled action; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Agreement between the City of Milwaukee and Quarles & Brady attached to the file, be and hereby is approved and the proper City officers be and hereby are authorized ...
