Substitute resolution relating to the City's Workplace Violence Prevention Policy.
Analysis
This resolution approves a new "Workplace Violence Prevention Policy" for the City of Milwaukee and its employes. The resolution also rescinds Common Council Resolution 951129, adopted on November 28, 1995, relating to the establishment and implementation of a workplace violence prevention policy for the City of Milwaukee and its employes.
Body
Whereas, Workplace violence is an increasing problem for American workers, with homicide currently the leading cause of workplace death for women and one of the leading causes of occupational death for all workers; and

Whereas, Violence against workers on the job may be initiated by disgruntled employes, fellow workers or total strangers; and

Whereas, Employes of the City of Milwaukee have not escaped the shocking consequences of increased violence in the workplace; and

Whereas, Out of concern for the health and safety of City workers, the City in 1992 began to increase its workplace violence prevention and policy efforts, with a particular focus on domestic violence; and

Whereas, In 1994, the Department of Employe Relations began to develop a broader approach to workplace violence prevention issues; and

Whereas, On November 28, 1995, the Common Council adopted Resolution File Number 951129, relating to the establishment and implementation of a workplace violence prevention policy for the City of Milwaukee and its employes; and

Whereas, The Department of Employe Relations has developed a new "Workplace Violence Prevention Policy", which is attached to this file; now, therefore, be it
