Resolution to accept and fund a Community Mapping, Planning and Analysis for Safety Strategies (COMPASS) Grant. (Department of Administration)
Analysis:
The Common Council authorized the Milwaukee Police Department to apply for the COMPASS grant in file 001297. The Department of Administration will be the award recipient, and will develop and implement a multi-agency public safety database.
Body:
Whereas, Under the terms of CFDA #16.560 the City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, National Institute of Justice for a COMPASS Project Grant; and

Whereas, The operation of this grant program from January 1, 2001 to December 31, 2002 would cost $828,320 of which 203,320 (24.6%)would be provided by the city and $625,000 (75.4%) would be provided by the grantor; and

Whereas, A resolution providing authority to apply for the COMPASS grant was approved in Common Council file #000693; and

Whereas, Project COMPASS would help law enforcement agencies and community groups understand public safety issues and trends and develop collaborative programs to improve the quality of life in Milwaukee's neighborhoods; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Department of Administration – Business Operations Division shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Common Council File 940843; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:

1. Commit funds within the Project/Grant Parent of the 2001 Special Revenue -Grant and Aid Projects, the following amounts for the program titled: Project COMPASS
