Title
Resolution authorizing the Milwaukee Police Department to apply for, accept and expend contributions of not more than $5,000 from the Canine Foundation for costs related to the operation of the Canine Unit.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to apply for, accept and expend amounts up to $5,000 from the Canine Foundation in contributions toward the costs of operating the Canine Unit. An initial amount of $5,000 has been offered. These costs may include the purchase, maintenance and training of dogs.
Body
Whereas, Section 304-24 of the City of Milwaukee Code of Ordinances regulates the receipt, appropriation and expenditure of contributions received by the City; and

Whereas, The Canine Foundation has offered to donate $5,000 to the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) to assist in covering the costs of the Canine Unit which may include the purchase, maintenance and training of dogs; and

Whereas, The Canine Unit has been effective in preventing and detecting criminal activity; and

Whereas, Costs associated with the operation of the Canine Unit have historically been covered by contributions from the federal asset forfeiture program and private contributions; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the City of Milwaukee Police Department is authorized to apply for, accept and expend amounts of not more than $5,000 from the Canine Foundation for costs associated with the operations of the Canine Unit; and, be it

Further Resolved, That upon receipt and deposit of these amounts, the City Comptroller is directed to establish a special account within the budget for the expenditure of the contributions; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is directed to transfer appropriations and estimated revenue from the Contribution Fund-General, account number 0001-2110-D001-006300, and the estimated revenu...
