This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Police Department to apply for, accept and fund a Milwaukee Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Grant project/program from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance through the Wisconsin Office of Justice Assistance and the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office in the amount of $480,932 with a city share of $309,823 and a grantor share of $171,109. The purpose of the project/program is to reduce the volume of controlled substances in the Milwaukee Area. This is a continuing grant and does not involve any new positions. The grant funds 4 Office Assistant II positions for twelve months.

BODY:
Whereas, Under the terms of CFDA #16.579, the City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance through the Wisconsin Office of Justice Assistance and the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office for a Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Grant; and

Whereas, The operation of this grant project/program from January 1, 1998 to December 31, 1998 would cost $480,932 of which $309,823 (64%) would be provided by the city and $171,109 (36%) would be provided by the grantor; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Police Department shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Section 304-81; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:

1. Encumber in the parent accounts of the 1998 Special Revenue Accounts-Grant and Aid Projects, the following amounts for the project/program titled: Milwaukee Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Grant.
