ANLS:
-Analysis- An earlier resolution 980471 authorized application for a COPS More Grant for Mobile Data Computer (MDC) equipment. This resolution would authorize acceptance and expenditure of the funds awarded by the United States Department of Justice, Community Oriented Policing Services. The purpose of the grant for $360,000 is to reduce crime and improve public safety, using technology. The forty eight Mobile Data Computers (MDC's) should help to enhance service levels and efficiency. The local match of $120,000 would come from asset forfeitures. The item was included in the 1998 Asset Forfeiture Plan already approved by the Council.

BODY:
Whereas, Under the terms of CFDA #16.710 The City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the United States Department of Justice, Community Oriented Policing Services for a COPS More Grant; and

Whereas, The operation of this grant project would cost $480,000 of which $120,000 (25%) would be provided by the city through asset forfeiture funds and $360,000 (75%) would be provided by the grantor; and

Whereas, The local match of $120,000 would come from asset forfeiture funds as part of the 1998 Asset Forfeiture Plan previously approved by the Common Council; and

Whereas, The grant would enhance the number of MDC's that could be acquired to proceed with the program; and

Whereas, The federal government has established specific guidelines for expending funds received as a result of the asset forfeiture fund program; and

Whereas, The Police Department currently has funds held in Trust (account no. 61-934-1018) to increase or enhance law enforcement efforts in the City of Milwaukee; now, therefore, be it
