Title
Substitute resolution relating to acceptance of the Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grant.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes Mayor Tom Barrett to accept a Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), in the amount of $30 million, on behalf of the City of Milwaukee, which is a co-recipient of this grant to the Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee.

The purpose of this grant is to support locally-driven strategies to address struggling neighborhoods with distressed public or HUD-assisted housing through a comprehensive approach to neighborhood transformation.

The boundaries of the transformation area are W. Mill Rd. (north), W. Villard Ave. (south), N. Sherman Blvd. (east) and N. 76th St. (west).

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee has been selected to receive a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grant funding award to transform struggling neighborhoods; and

Whereas, Mayor Tom Barrett and the City of Milwaukee are lead applicants, and the Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee (HACM) is co-applicant on this grant; and

Whereas, The Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee (HACM) is the recipient of the funds and agrees to conduct all activities related to this grant; and

Whereas, Milwaukee’s Choice Neighborhood Transformation Plan will use Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grant funds to leverage an additional $270 million in neighborhood investment from public and private sources; and

Whereas, The Director of the Department of Administration and the Executive Director of HACM will be co-implementation leaders on this grant project; now, therefore, be it
