This resolution expresses the Common Council's support for the City of Milwaukee's Election Commission's and the Information and Technology Management Division's efforts to make certain campaign finance documents available on the Internet.

Body

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee has a commitment to integrity in campaigns and elections; and

Whereas, Public access to the campaign finance documents of candidates is a way of maintaining integrity in campaigns and elections; and

Whereas, The public can currently review any candidate's campaign finance report, but only in person at the Office of the Election Commission; and

Whereas, Availability of campaign finance reports on the Internet would provide easier public access and greater public scrutiny of candidates and elected officials who must consistently earn the public trust; and

Whereas, The City's Information and Technology Management Division has the capacity to develop a system which would display candidates' campaign finance reports through the City's website; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Common Council expresses its support for the City of Milwaukee's Election Commission's and the Information and Technology Management Division's efforts to make certain campaign finance documents available on the Internet.
