Title

Resolution authorizing the Milwaukee Police Department to apply for an Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant. (Police Department)

Analysis

This resolution authorizes the application for a Justice assistance Grant from the United States Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance. This is a new grant program for 2006, which replaces the former Local Law Enforcement Block Grant.

 

These Justice Assistance grants allow state and local to government to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime.

Milwaukee County will be the fiscal agent for the grant.

 

Body

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee is eligible for grant funds from the United States Department of Justice - Bureau of Justice Assistance; and

Whereas, It is appropriate for the City of Milwaukee Police department to apply for such grant funds in the amount of $410,650 for the purpose of updating its fleet of squad cars and to begin to implement the utilization of cameras in our squads; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Milwaukee Police Department is authorized to apply for a Justice Assistance Grant; and, be it

Further Resolved, That acceptance and expenditure of these funds by the Milwaukee Police Department is not authorized herein and any such acceptance and expenditure shall require express Common Council approval by adoption of a separate resolution.
