Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Department of Public Works Forestry Service to accept and fund a 2026 Regular Grant from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for $50,000 with a grantor of $25,000 and a City share of $25,000 to be provided through an in-kind, labor services match. The purpose of this grant is for the City of Milwaukee to partner with MMSD to: to giveaway 500 native trees to owner-occupied homeowners residing in the city of Milwaukee.
Body
Outcomes over the term of the grant include: a) Distribution of 500 native trees to owner-occupied homeowners residing in the city of Milwaukee b) Educate 500 owner-occupied homeowners on tree benefits, planting, and care c) Source 500 native trees from the city of Milwaukee nursery d) Establish a community-engagement model that is replicable beyond Milwaukee

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee appears to be eligible for grant funds from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources; and

Whereas, the operation of this grant from 01/01/2026 to 12/31/2026 would cost $50,000 of which $25,000 (50%) would be provided by the grantor and $25,000 (50%) would be provided by: an in-kind labor services match; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Milwaukee Department of Public Works Forestry Service shall accept this grant without further approval unless the terms of the grant change as indicated in Section 304-81, of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the City Comptroller is authorized to:
