Resolution relative to acceptance and expenditure of a $200,000 contribution from We Energies to support the Solar America Cities Grant and additional contributions and rebates from the Focus on Energy program.

Analysis
Resolution 080121 authorizes the Office of Environmental Sustainability in the Department of Administration to accept funds from the Department of Energy (DOE). The Resolution also authorizes the Office of Environmental Sustainability to accept matching funds from We Energies and Focus on Energy as a cash match for the DOE funds. The Resolution also provided that the funds accepted by the City from DOE and We Energies be used to fund Solar America City grant activities.

The purpose of Solar America Cities grant is to reduce barriers to adoption of solar technologies within the City of Milwaukee. Milwaukee is one of 12 cities selected for this grant in 2008, and the results of this project will be shared across the country. This project will be implemented over a two-year period beginning in summer 2008.

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee is eligible for supplemental cash-match funds from Solar America City partner We Energies to help remove barriers to implementing solar technology in the City. Approved expenditures include labor costs associated with solar installation, materials, installer training, educational materials, and miscellaneous project costs; and

Whereas, The Common Council, through adoption of Common Council File 071136, has expressed its commitment to promoting growth of solar technology in the City; and

Whereas, Project Partner We Energies has contributed $200,000 to the Solar Cities initiative. The funds have been temporarily deposited as a City revenue; and

Whereas, Project Partner Focus on Energy has pledged to provide grant contributions and project rebates of up to $270,000 to help promote solar activities in the City. Focus on Energy...
