Title
Substitute resolution relative to an appeal of the Historic Preservation Commission's action denying the application for a certificate of appropriateness for a storefront design at 628 North Water Street (East Side Commercial Historic District).
Analysis
This resolution reverses the July 15, 2002, decision of the Historic Preservation Commission denying a certificate of appropriateness for a moveable display window system at the property located at 628 North Water Street. This resolution would, in effect, grant the certificate of appropriateness.
Body
Whereas, The property at 628 North Water Street is within the area designated as the East Side Commercial Historic District, and the owners of all buildings within historic districts are required to seek a certificate of appropriateness from the Historic Preservation Commission before in any way altering the exterior of their buildings; and
Whereas, The owners of this property have requested a certificate of appropriateness for the purpose of installing a moveable display window system; and
Whereas, The Historic Preservation Commission, on July 15, 2002, rejected this request after a public hearing, finding that the chosen display system was not consistent with the historic appearance of storefront windows traditionally found in the district; and
Whereas, The owners of this property, pursuant to section 308-81-9-f of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances, are entitled to appeal the decision of the Historic Preservation Commission to the Common Council, and the owners have filed a request for a hearing of their appeal in a timely manner; now, therefore, be it
