Analysis

This resolution transfers $50,000 from the 2000 Common Council Contingent Fund to the Department of Public Works' 2000 School Play Area Reconstruction Fund for the purpose of rebuilding the totlot at Whittier Elementary School which was recently destroyed by fire.

Body

Whereas, On August 23, 2000, the totlot at Whittier Elementary School was destroyed by a fire currently under investigation as an arson; and

Whereas, This play area was a popular one, visited and enjoyed by hundreds of children and their families every year; and

Whereas, The cost of replacing the multi-deck play structure, wood-chip play surface, rubberized handicapped access ramp and other accessories is estimated at $50,000; and

Whereas, The money set aside by the Department of Public Works for the construction or improvement of play areas in the year 2000 is already committed to other projects thus creating an emergency and justifying the expenditure of contingent funds; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the City Comptroller is authorized and directed to transfer $50,000 from the 2000 Contingent Fund (0001-9990-C001-006300) to the Department of Public Works' 2000 School Play Area Reconstruction Fund (PR1110-0300); and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Department of Public Works is authorized and directed to expend funds up to $50,000 to rebuild the Whittier Elementary School totlot as quickly as possible.
