Title
Resolution granting Milwaukee Downtown, Inc., permission to place a portable information kiosk on the public right-of-way at various locations in downtown Milwaukee.
Analysis
This resolution permits Milwaukee Downtown, Inc., to place a portable information kiosk on downtown Milwaukee sidewalks in 2001. Each location where the kiosk is to be placed shall be subject to the review and approval of the commissioner of public works.
Body
Whereas, Milwaukee Downtown, Inc., a non-profit subsidiary of Business Improvement District Number 21, desires to place a portable information kiosk on the sidewalk portion of the public right-of-way at various locations in downtown Milwaukee starting in Spring, 2001; and

Whereas, The proposed information kiosk would measure 8 feet wide by 4 feet deep by 9 feet tall; and

Whereas, The proposed information kiosk would be staffed by Milwaukee Downtown's "public service ambassadors," who would answer questions and distribute information about directions, parking, shopping, dining, upcoming events and downtown attractions; and

Whereas, Milwaukee Downtown, Inc., plans to have a regular schedule for placement of the information kiosk at various high-visibility locations (e.g., Mondays at City Hall, Wednesdays at the Westown Farmers' Market, etc.) and to also use the kiosk to assist and inform visitors at special events (e.g., RiverSplash and Bastille Days); and

Whereas, The services provided by the information kiosk staff would be beneficial to Milwaukee residents and visitors alike; and

Whereas, By making downtown Milwaukee more "customer-friendly," the information kiosk would support economic development efforts in this area of the city; and
