Resolution to close median opening in West Lapham Boulevard at South 13th Street on a trial basis. (Infrastructure Services Division)
Analysis
Due to concerns relative to several vehicular crashes at the intersection of West Lapham Boulevard and South 13th Street, the Department of Public Works proposes to close the median opening on West Lapham Boulevard at South 13th Street to minimize traffic movements, thus reducing vehicular conflicts. This resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to close this segment of roadway on a trial basis to evaluate the impacts of the proposed closure.
Body
Whereas, Traffic conflicts, causing vehicular crashes, raises concerns relative to public safety; and
Whereas, Closure of the median opening on West Lapham Boulevard at South 13th Street to certain vehicular traffic movements can reduce traffic crashes, thereby improving safety; and
Whereas, The Department of Public Works recommends that this closure be implemented on a trial basis through the placement of moveable barriers to fully evaluate the effects of this closure prior to construction of a permanent closure; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Commissioner of Public Works is hereby authorized and directed to close the median opening on West Lapham Boulevard at South 13th Street on a trial basis to evaluate the impact of this closure on vehicular safety in the area.
