Analysis
Adoption of this resolution by at least two-thirds vote of the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee will approve the surplus declaration and blight designation of City-owned vacant lots and will permit the Redevelopment Authority to convey these and other properties according to the conditions in the Land Disposition Report.
Body
Whereas, Section 66.1333(5)(c), Wisconsin Statutes, enables the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Milwaukee ("Authority") to acquire blighted property without designating a boundary or adopting a redevelopment plan after providing proper notice to the property owner, conducting a Public Hearing to determine if the property meets the statutory definition of blight and obtaining the approval of the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee ("Council"); and

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee ("City") owns a number of vacant lots in the vicinity of the North Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive and West Hadley Street Redevelopment Project Area that are suitable for development in conjunction with Authority-owned properties for the King Drive Commons initiative as summarized in the Land Disposition Report and Blight Designation Summary ("Report"), a copy of which is attached to this Common Council File; and

Whereas, The City waived its right to the statutory notice and a Public Hearing was conducted on November 21, 2002 by the Authority, after which it determined that the City-owned vacant lots in the area between West Center and West Locust Streets from North 1st to Nort...
