Title
Resolution authorizing the execution of an agreement between the City of Milwaukee and Milwaukee County pertaining to the use of county-owned emergency medical service response vehicles.
Analysis
This resolution directs the appropriate city officials to enter into an agreement with Milwaukee County under which the city would assume operational responsibility for 2 new Emergency Medical Services (EMS) training vehicles. These vehicles would be housed at fire stations at 2050 North Palmer Street and 1313 West Reservoir Avenue, which corresponds to current field placements for all EMS-Paramedic students.
Body
Whereas, Milwaukee County's Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Program is responsible for training and educating all paramedics who work within the county paramedic system; and
Whereas, The EMS program has purchased 2 new large cab vehicles for use as training vehicles and desires to locate them where those being taught on them are likely to receive the widest range of "real-life" rescue experience; and
Whereas, The EMS program has determined that the best location for these units would be within the City of Milwaukee; and
Whereas, Although the vehicles are owned by Milwaukee County, the Milwaukee Fire Department has been asked to assume operational responsibility for them as the agency to which the vehicles have been assigned; and
Whereas, These vehicles, whether being used for training or not, will also serve as front-line emergency response vehicles, providing a cost-saving to the City; and
Whereas, Representatives of the city and the county have consented to various terms and conditions under which the vehicles would be kept within and operated by the city and these terms and conditions are incorporated in the attached intergovernmental cooperation agreement; now, therefore, be it
