This resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works and Comptroller to execute a State Municipal Agreement with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for the optimization and retiming of traffic signals citywide and fund the project in various Aldermanic Districts with a total estimated cost of $6,690,000, with an estimated grantor share of $5,352,000, and an estimated City share of $1,338,000.
Body
Whereas, Preliminary approval has been requested and received from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, along with a State Municipal Agreement to be executed by the City of Milwaukee, for the optimization and retiming of traffic signals citywide under the FFY 2024 Federal Redistribution Congestion Mitigation Air Quality program; and

Whereas, The optimization and retiming of traffic signals citywide will reduce congestion and vehicle emissions throughout the city as well as improve operations for all modes of travel including pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit vehicles; and

Whereas, The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has submitted a State Municipal Agreement for execution by the City of Milwaukee for:

City of Milwaukee Traffic Optimization
City Wide
Milwaukee County

; and

Whereas, The State cannot proceed with any project cost overruns or changes in scope of more than 5% without prior Department of Public Works approval; and
