Analysis
This resolution establishes an ad hoc committee to recommend a fitting tribute to Jane Bradley Pettit who died September 9, 2001. The committee will be composed of a representative selected by the Common Council President, a representative appointed by the Milwaukee County Executive, and representatives of the Milwaukee Arts Board, the Wisconsin District Center, the Milwaukee Public School System and the Pettit Foundation.

Whereas, Jane Bradley Pettit passed from this life on September 9, 2001; and
Whereas, With her death, the City of Milwaukee lost a woman identified as the greatest benefactor in its history, a true philanthropist who contributed an estimated $250 million to various local causes over the course of her life; and
Whereas, Jane Bradley Pettit left an indelible stamp on the face of Milwaukee with significant contributions including the Bradley Center, the Pettit National Ice Center, the Lynde and Harry Bradley School of Technology and Trade and the Milwaukee Art Museum, among many others; and
Whereas, This infrastructural legacy is only outshone by the thousands of lives the Pettit Foundation touched and touches every year with a remarkable pattern of community giving to organizations as diverse as the Ko-Thi Dance Company, the YWCA, the Task Force on Family Violence, the Children's Hospital Foundation, the Great Circus Parade and the Riveredge Nature Center; and
Whereas, It is only fitting that the greater Milwaukee area joins together to prepare a tribute to her legacy and memory; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that there is created an ad hoc committee named the Jane Bradley Pettit Memorial Committee; and, be it
