This ordinance extends employe health and dental benefits to the dependents of city employes whose national guard or reserve units are called up, or who volunteer, for active military duty in connection with the presidential executive order of April 27,1999, relating to Operation Allied Force (the Kosovo conflict). The city shall contribute towards the subscriber cost for the employe's health or dental plan, or both, for employes who serve on active duty for more than 30 days. The benefits cease when the national guard or reserve member is released from active duty or after 12 months, whichever comes first. The benefit terms are the same as those provided for the dependents of employes who volunteered or were called up for active duty in Bosnia.
BODY:
The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:

Part 1. Section 350-36-2.5-0 of the code is amended to read:

350-36. Military Leave.

2.5. CONTINUATION OF BENEFITS DURING CERTAIN MILITARY LEAVES OF ABSENCE. In addition to the rights of city employes pursuant to this section, during a military leave of absence for performance of duties as a member of a national guard unit of the United States or reserve component of the United States who is called to, or volunteers for, active duty in Bosnia >>or active duty in connection with the presidential executive order of April 27,1999, relating to Operation Allied Force<< in accordance with the calling up of units of the national guard of the United States or members of the reserve components of the United States, for a period of more than 30 days, health [[and/]]or dental benefits >>or both<< for such employe's dependents shall be continued under the following conditions:
