This ordinance regulates the appearance of exterior walls of commercial and residential buildings. The ordinance provides that the surface of an exterior wall shall not be partially painted, sided, or resurfaced in a material or color that is visually inconsistent with the material or color of the rest of that exterior wall.
BODY:
The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Milwaukee do ordain as follows:
Part 1. Section 275-36 of the code is created to read:
275-36. Surface of Exterior Walls. 1. The general welfare of the residents of the city requires that the exterior of buildings, whether vacant or occupied, be and appear to be maintained and repaired by the owner or operator in such a way as to enhance the quality of life in the neighborhood and to prevent the blighting of city neighborhoods.
2. The surface of an exterior wall shall not be partially painted, coated, sided, re-sided, surfaced or resurfaced in a material or color that is visually inconsistent with the material or color of the rest of the surface of that exterior wall.
3. The prohibition in sub. 2 does not apply when a building is in the process of being painted, coated, sided, re-sided, surfaced or resurfaced, provided that the work is completed in a timely manner.
