Title

Substitute resolution authorizing the Milwaukee Fire Department to enter into intergovernmental agreements with Wisconsin municipalities to provide repair and maintenance services for fire, rescue and emergency medical equipment.

 

Analysis

This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Fire Department (MFD) to enter into intergovernmental cooperation agreements with Wisconsin municipalities to provide repair and maintenance services on fire, rescue and emergency medical equipment and materials.  It is in the mutual interest of the MFD and requesting municipalities to work cooperatively to minimize downtime of equipment and utilize economies of scale in acquiring parts and materials necessary for maintenance and repairs.

 

Body

 

Whereas, The MFD operates a fully equipped repair facility and is responsible for maintenance and repair of MFD equipment and materials; and

 

Whereas, Wis. Stat. §§ 66.0301 and 66.03125 define, outline and provide authority for intergovernmental cooperation and fire department mutual assistance; and

 

Whereas, MFD and other local fire departments have recognized that intergovernmental cooperation can enhance cost-effective and expedient repair and maintenance operations; and

 

Whereas, a well-maintained emergency response fleet across municipalities strengthens regional response capabilities and enhances public safety; now, therefore, be it

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the MFD is authorized to enter into agreements similar in form to the agreement attached with requesting Wisconsin municipalities for the repair and maintenance of fire, rescue and emergency medical equipment and materials.
