Title

Resolution authorizing the Department of Public Works to apply for a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency to offset the cost of purchasing heavy duty electric vehicles and related EV charging infrastructure.

Analysis

This resolution authorizes the Department of Public Works to apply for a grant offered by the Environmental Protection Agency that offsets the cost of purchasing heavy duty electric vehicles and building related EV charging infrastructure. The DPW seeks to apply for a grant to purchase eight EV dump trucks, fifty level-two charging units, and two 3-DC fast charging units.  The total project cost is estimated to be $3,575,000, with $2,840,000 being eligible for grant reimbursement and $735,000 being used from Fleet capital funding.

 

Body

Whereas, the Department of Public Works supports the Climate and Equity Plan and strives to reduce harmful vehicle emissions by purchasing electric powered dump trucks which have a lower carbon content than diesel, produce fewer emissions and pollutants than diesel.; and

 

Whereas the Environmental Protection Agency released a Notification of Funding Opportunity for Clean Heavy Duty Vehicles, (EPA-R-OAR-CHDV-24-6), be it therefore:

 

Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Department of Public Works is authorized to apply for the EPA 2024 Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicles grant, and that the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee supports the grant initiative.
