Title
Substitute resolution relative to acceptance and funding of a $125,000 grant from the Fund for Lake Michigan in support of the Environmental Collaboration Office’s 2020 Water Centric City initiative.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Environmental Collaboration Office to accept and fund a Fund for Lake Michigan Grant in the amount of $125,000. The purpose of this grant is to support Milwaukee’s efforts to be a global leader in sustainable and resilient water management by implementing the goals of Milwaukee’s Water Centric City framework focusing on water related educational signage, work to reduce single use plastic in the City, public education about efforts to improve water quality in the Milwaukee River, continued work on green infrastructure to manage stormwater where it falls, research and enforcement of Milwaukee’s ban on coal tar sealants, and outreach related to Water Centric City initiatives.

Whereas, The City of Milwaukee is eligible for grant funds from the Fund for Lake Michigan
Whereas, the Refresh Milwaukee sustainability plan contains a goal to “Establish Milwaukee as America’s Water Centric-City”, as defined by principles including education, fishable & swimmable waterways and green infrastructure, and
Whereas, the grant will allow the City to fulfill the goals established in the City’s Green Infrastructure Plan, support the Plastic-Free MKE movement, support the City’s role to improve water quality and the Area of Concern (AOC) efforts in the Milwaukee River estuary, and continue to provide outreach and education on Milwaukee as a Water Centric City; and
