Title
Substitute resolution regarding the final design concepts of the new Knapp Street Bridge over the Milwaukee River.
Analysis
This substitute resolution indicates the Common Council's support for the aesthetic treatment and design concepts for the new Knapp Street Bridge proposed to be built over the Milwaukee River to replace the Park East Freeway crossing.
Body
Whereas, The removal of the existing Park East Freeway and replacement with a new surface arterial facility is scheduled to begin in 2002; and
Whereas, The replacement facility includes the construction of a new vertical lift bridge over the Milwaukee River; and
Whereas, Common Council Resolution File No. 001378, adopted February 6, 2001, in part, directed the City Engineer to submit the final bridge design concept to the Common Council for review prior to undertaking final contract plans; and
Whereas, The project consultant, HNTB, has worked extensively with City staff and the City's Art Board on the aesthetic features for the new bridge and have developed a design incorporating many unique features for both the bridge and the bridge operator's house; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee hereby endorses the aesthetic treatment and design concepts proposed for the new Knapp Street Bridge over the Milwaukee River.
