Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Commissioner of Public Works to enter into a one-year contract with Verizon Wireless to provide city cellular telephone service under the same terms and conditions of the previous contract, which expired on August 31, 2004.
Body
Whereas, The City had entered into a 5-year contract with Verizon Wireless for the provision of cellular telephone service, which expired on August 31, 2004; and

Whereas, The City is installing a new land line telephone system, and it would be preferable to continue with the existing cellular communication services to minimize disruption to City voice communications; and

Whereas, Verizon Wireless provides 1,200 cellular telephones and accessories to the City of Milwaukee; and

Whereas, Verizon Wireless has provided reliable cellular telephone service at competitive rates to the City of Milwaukee for the last 5 years; and

Whereas, Verizon Wireless has agreed to a 2-month extension under the same terms and conditions of the previous contract in anticipation of the Commissioner of Public Works receiving authorization to enter into a one-year contract to expire on August 31, 2005; and

Whereas, The terms and conditions of the contract will be the same as the previous contract including the rate structure and the provision for replacement of cellular telephones and accessories at no cost to the City; and

Whereas, The Commissioner of Public Works intends to have a competitive bidding process in 2005 for the provision of cellular telephone service; now, therefore, be it
