Title
Resolution authorizing the Milwaukee Water Works to apply to the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin for an increase in its water rates. (Water Works)
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Milwaukee Water Works to apply to the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW) for an increase in its water rates. The application would be filed within the context of the PSCW's provisions for a Simplified Rate Case and would result in an equal increase to all water customers effective no less than 45 days after receipt of the application by the PSCW.
Body
Whereas, The Milwaukee Water Works last increased its water rates in September, 1999; and
Whereas, An adequate cash flow is essential to the Water Works ability to operate, maintain and replace its facilities; and
Whereas, The PSCW has recently implemented a Simplified Rate Case procedure whereby water utilities can apply for a "cost of living" adjustment in rates; and
Whereas, The year 2000 adjustment was 3% and the year 2001 adjustment is anticipated to be approximately the same, and will be announced by the PSCW on or about March 1, 2001; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee that the Milwaukee Water Works is authorized to prepare a Simplified Rate Case (SRC) application for a water rate increase under the procedures established by the PSCW, and submit such application to the PSCW for review; and be it
Further Resolved, That the Water Works is authorized to implement the PSCW approved water rate increase resulting from this SRC, to be effective no sooner than June 1, 2001.
