Analysis
This resolution grants authority to the Commissioner of Public Works to issue a permit to install a granite monument sign, to be placed on City public right-of-way above North 9th Street, near the east elevation of the Milwaukee County Courthouse. The sign will serve to identify a portion of the lands adjacent to the Courthouse as India-America Friendship Park.
Body
Whereas, The Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors adopted resolution number 01-531 on November 1, 2001, accepting a donation of a bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi from the Wisconsin Coalition of Asian Indian Organizations; and

Whereas, The statue has subsequently been erected on Milwaukee County Property; and

Whereas, The Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors adopted resolution number 03-232 on April 17, 2003, designating a portion of the Courthouse plaza surrounding the statue as the India-America Friendship Park; and

Whereas, Milwaukee County has agreed to accept from the Wisconsin Coalition of Asian Indian Organizations a granite monument sign identifying the lands surrounding the statue as Indian-America Friendship Park; and

Whereas, Milwaukee County wishes to install the sign on the Courthouse plaza within the North 9th Street right-of-way; and

Whereas, The sign can only be permitted to occupy the public right-of-way, as proposed, by permission of the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee; now, therefore, be it
