Minutes note: Jeanne Dawson, HACM’s Program Specialist, explained that the City of Milwaukee approached HACM regarding the vacant lot at 1519 North 13th Street as a potential surface parking lot for a new Mental Health Facility adjacent to the property. She stated the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requires HACM to have the Board’s approval to submit the disposition application to HUD for the sale of the vacant land. Vice Chair VandeBerg asked how the proceeds of the sale would be used. Fernando Aniban, HACM’s Assistant Secretary, stated HUD only allows the proceeds to be used towards the Public Housing program.

WHEREAS, the Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee (HACM) owns and manages more than 4,000 units of low-rent public housing under the terms of an Annual Contributions Contract with the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD); and

 

WHEREAS, HUD allows Public Housing Authorities to submit Disposition applications to dispose of all or part of public housing structures and land in excess of what is needed to operation efficiently;

 

WHEREAS, the City of Milwaukee, along with its adjacent parcel at 1515 N. 13th St., plans to combine the lots and sell them to Milwaukee County for the construction of surface parking for the employees of the Mental Health Emergency Center; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Secretary-Executive Director recommends approving the submission by the Housing Authority of the Disposition application to remove the .18 acres of vacant land at 1519 N. 13th St.; and, therefore, let it be

 

RESOLVED, that the recommendation to submit the Disposition application to sell 1519 N. 13th St. to the City of Milwaukee for $20,000.00 is hereby accepted; and be it

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Secretary-Executive Director is hereby authorized to take whatever action is necessary to complete the submission of the Disposition application .18 acres of vacant land at 1519 N. 13th St. and have said property removed from its inventory.
