Substitute resolution relating to acceptance and subsequent expenditure of contributions received by the Department of Administration for the Midnight Basketball League program.
Analysis
This resolution authorizes the Department of Administration to accept and expend contributions received for the Midnight Basketball League program.
Body
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee, in partnership with the Milwaukee Public Schools, the Milwaukee Bucks and Running Rebels, recently launched the Midnight Basketball League program; and
Whereas, Midnight Basketball was created to engage approximately 80 to 100 young men from 17- to 25-years-old in three 10-week league seasons as a positive and constructive outlet that includes mentorship in addition to basketball games; and
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee appropriated $10,000 in the 2017 Budget under Special Purpose Account Number 0001-1510-0001-S240-006300 to help fund the expenses of organizing the Midnight Basketball League; and
Whereas, The City of Milwaukee may receive contributions from community residents and businesses to provide for the expenses of the Midnight Basketball League; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that the Department of Administration is authorized to accept $50,000 of contributions for the operation of the Midnight Basketball League and to expend such funds for this purpose or any purpose specified by the contribution, no more than the amount actually received, in accordance with established City policies and procedures; and, be it
Further Resolved, That upon receipt and deposit of these funds, the City Comptroller is authorized and directed to establish a special account within the Department of Administration’s budget for the expenditure of the contributions; and, be it
