This substitute resolution requires that a position of Environmental Health Specialist II in the Bureau of Consumer Protection and Environmental Health of the Health Department remain vacant until legislation is enacted to increase food license fees to recover 50% of the direct costs of the position.
BODY:
Whereas, By amendment to the 1999 city budget, the Common Council required that the filling of one position of Environmental Health Specialist II in the Bureau of Consumer Protection and Environmental Health of the Health Department be contingent upon enactment of legislation to increase food license fees to recover 50% of the direct costs of the position; and
 
Whereas, The Department of Administration - Budget and Management Division is studying Health Department fees to identify fees which could be increased to cover some of the direct costs of this position; and
 
Whereas, The filling of this position will permit the Health Department to conduct inspections at large, full-service restaurants 3 times per year and these additional inspections may result in a reduction or prevention of food-borne diseases and ensure the public health; now, therefore, be it
 
Resolved, By the Common Council of the City of Milwaukee, that a position of Environmental Health Specialist II in the Bureau of Consumer Protection and Environmental Health of the Health Department shall remain vacant until legislation is enacted to increase food license fees to recover 50% of the direct costs of the position.
